Hotels in Nice: prices, timing and areas
Nice is a holiday right by the sea, so the price of a stay swings with the weather and the concert season more than in a business city. Most guests pick a base near the Promenade des Anglais or in the Vieux Nice old town with its narrow lanes and the Cours Saleya market, while those after a deal head towards the airport. The centre is compact and served by a tram, and Nice Côte d'Azur airport sits a few kilometres from the beach. The gap between November and June can be several times over, and a typical stay runs four nights. This list has 3 898 properties, from a hostel bed to five stars by the seafront. Below is what really drives the price of a stay in Nice: the month, the day of the week and the district.
When to book a stay in Nice for less
It is cheapest in November, when the beach season is over and rates fall by about half against the yearly average. June and high summer are the priciest, at the peak of the seaside and concert season, when prices can more than double. Oddly for the Riviera, Saturday tends to be the cheapest day and Wednesday the most expensive, the opposite of what people often assume. About a month ahead is enough for a regular trip, and the lowest rates show up close to the date, around three days before arrival. In high summer, especially around big concerts, it is better to book well in advance.
What a stay costs by property type
Nice runs from a cheap hostel bed to an apartment with a sea view, so the range is wide. The cheapest sleep is in hostels and simple hotels outside the very centre, while apartments can cost more than a regular hotel because you rent a whole place. Below are indicative nightly rates from the summer peak.
| Property type | Indicative price per night (from) |
| Hostel bed or cheap room | from approx. EUR 55 |
| Budget hotel (1-2 stars) | from approx. EUR 90 |
| Three-star hotel | from approx. EUR 105 |
| Apartment or aparthotel | from approx. EUR 140 |
| Four-star hotel | from approx. EUR 150 |
| Five-star hotel | from approx. EUR 520 |
Indicative rates for a double room, from the July peak. Out of season, especially in late autumn, the same property can be up to half as much, so check the real price for your dates in the search above.
Where a stay is cheaper and where it costs more
The most hotels are in the city centre, with the tram and most of them within a walk. The priciest are the Vieux Nice old town and the Promenade des Anglais itself, where you pay for the sea view and the address. The cheapest is the airport area, the Arenas district a few kilometres from the beach, handy for a single night around a flight. Below are indicative nightly prices in a few areas.
| Area | Indicative price per night (from) |
| Arenas, near the airport | from approx. EUR 90 |
| City centre | from approx. EUR 105 |
| Vieux Nice, old town | from approx. EUR 130 |
| Promenade des Anglais, by the sea | from approx. EUR 140 |
The cheapest area runs about a third less than the old town. The airport district is good for a stopover night, though you still have to travel to the beach and the centre.
Which stay in Nice suits whom
- First time in Nice. The centre or the edge of the Vieux Nice old town is the easiest base. From here it is a walk to the Cours Saleya market, Castle Hill and the sea.
- By the sea. Hotels along the Promenade des Anglais, with a view over the bay and beaches a few minutes away. The dearest option, but the classic Riviera address.
- For couples. Boutique hotels around the old town; couples rate Hotel 66 Nice and Nice Pam Hotel highly. In the evening the life is in Vieux Nice.
- For families. Apartments and aparthotels near the Promenade des Anglais, with the beach and room to spread out. Four nights is a typical stay, so a kitchen in the unit helps.
- With breakfast. Some central hotels include a buffet in the rate, which helps you set off early for the sea or the Matisse and Chagall museums.
- Near the airport. Hotels in Arenas around Nice Côte d'Azur are the cheapest in the city and good for an early flight, with the tram running into the centre.
